Firm History
The firm was established in Saskatoon in May 1980 by Keith Thomson and Arnie Shaw, both of whom saw the opportunity to provide quality accounting services to local independent businesses. Initially, the firm concentrated its services in the areas of financial statement preparation, income tax preparation and planning, and financial consulting. A great deal of success was realized in the early years and our client base grew to the point where it was necessary to expand our services to include auditing and computer applications.
From an initial base of two partners and three staff members, the firm has grown to a current total staff of 28. In years subsequent to 1980, Paul Jaspar and Patti Stromberg joined the firm and became partners. In 1989, Arnie Shaw decided to leave public accounting to enter into private business. Patti Stromberg was forced to give up her involvement in 1990 for reasons of ill-health.
In February, 1992, Brian Turnquist became a partner, joining Keith Thomson and Paul Jaspar under the new firm name, Thomson Jaspar & Associates. Most recently, Michael Gorniak was made a partner in January, 2005 and Rodney Trayhorne became one in January, 2011, bringing the complement of partners to a total of five.
At the present time there are eleven chartered accountants with the firm and one articling student. Although our practice would be regarded as "general" in nature, having this number of fully-qualified professionals on staff has enabled the firm to develop expertise in a number of areas such as: Income taxation, Commodity taxation, Forensic accounting, Business valuations and Auditing.
In 2000, our firm joined the BHD Association, an association of similar sized firms with offices in most parts of Canada. This organization and our firm are members of the International Association of Professional Accountants (IAPA), a global association of independent accounting firms and groups with member firms all over the world. |
